Enjoy the same great products and feel good about protecting the Earth! Sharing the healing power of nature with the world comes with a responsibility to preserve that power for future generations. Eliminating waste, decreasing our carbon footprint and reducing our overall environmental impact has become an ever-present focus for Synergy. Converting our bulk powder products, such as the Biome Shake and ProArgi-9+ Jumbo products, from plastic containers to foil bags is just one way we are achieving each of these goals.
Sourcing these empty containers and shipping them to customers as finished products adds up to hundreds of pallets and tens of thousands of pounds of plastic annually, which drastically affects shipping logistics and costs, while leaving a negative environmental impact in its wake. We recognized the need to make a change and started looking for solutions. We found a more flexible packaging option that greatly reduces rigid plastic weight and one that dramatically condenses the space necessary for shipping the empty containers. By converting our bulk power products to flexible bags, we reduce the number of shipping pallets used, container weight and size, and total plastic waste.
While these are all significant improvements, the positive impact does not end there. The bags provide for a better overall consumer experience, and over their lifecycle (production, use and disposal) they require approximately 90% less energy and water, while producing about 90% less waste. Moving to bags checks all the boxes for reduced waste, fewer carbon emissions and a lower environmental impact, and that’s a story that we can all get behind!

The Impact Foundation recently held its first annual Charity Week of Service event. Held August 8-12, the event offered participants exciting ways to serve the community and give back like never before. Our passion for sharing the healing power of nature lies at the heart of everything we do. The Impact Foundation unites a community of loyal, like-minded individuals, by increasing awareness of nature’s healing power, creating meaningful service opportunities, and engaging with charitable organizations that align closely with our cause. There were a few different ways participants became involved during this special, Charity Week event.
FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN
The Impact Foundation partnered with Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) which provides meal packs to malnourished and starving children around the world. The FMSC meal packs are developed by food science and nutrition professionals to supplement the nutritional needs of children. Donations fund the meal ingredients and volunteers hand-pack the meals. Synergy and Nature’s Sunshine dedicated August 11th and 12th for employees to participate in packing these meals and began with a lofty goal of packing 101,000 meals within these two days. The Feed My Starving Children organization set up their meal pack assembly stations at our Spanish Fork manufacturing facility and employee volunteers filled each packing shift. Here’s how we did:

The Impact Foundation partnered with KUTV for the Back 2 School Backpacks and Snacks campaign. We accepted donations of non-perishable snacks, school supplies, and backpacks at both our Lehi office and Spanish Fork manufacturing facilities. All items collected will be distributed to students across the Granite School District as children head back to school.

Earlier this year, we released an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) report, which laid out our goals to become a more sustainable company. We invite you to learn more about our sustainability goals which include renewable energy, waste reduction, and a smaller carbon footprint.
By using solar energy in our manufacturing plant, we:
Beat our goal of manufacturing using 100% renewable energy by 2023 by 6 months
Will power 91% of our U.S. operations and 82% of our global operations with solar energy
Reduced our CO2 emissions by 42% (the equivalent of removing 300 cars from the road), which is a giant step to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2025
By going solar, we are not only dedicated to eco-friendly renewable energy, but we’re also dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint. Currently 50% of our corporate office is powered by solar energy, and we’ve reduced power usage at our manufacturing facility by 25%! Moving forward, we are striving to reduce waste produced in our manufacturing processes by 35%, with an end goal of zero waste to landfill from all US distribution centers by 2025.
